Conway is a world renowned mathematician. Perhaps you've heard, e.g., of Conway's Game of Life?

The great 19th century Mathematician, Gauss, published a paper on the subject. Interestingly he uses the Rambam's acronyms (transliterated) for the dechiyot. I was stretching my scientific German to fogure out what "wegen Adu" and "wegen Batu Thakpat" might be until I caught on.
Does anyone know details of his conversion algorithm? He once explained it to me in person many years ago, but I don't remember the details. All I remember were three important constants "he", "she", and "it".
