Interesting Posts and Articles #128

  1. HebrewBooks has Mitpachat Sefarim, by Rav Yaakov Emden, where he analyzes the authenticity of the Zohar and the Tikkunim.

  2. Wolfish Musings on the accuracy of the Jewish calendar.

  3. A crazy story from real fake world about some chassidim of R' Levi Yitzchak of Berditchev. Why should they think that this is a valid mikveh?

  4. Woman finds small mammal bone in one of her M&Ms. This freak occurrence, if true, probably would not affect the kashrut in the general case.

  5. An editorial in Jerusalem Post about Hillary's unhelpful reprimand.

  6. The possibility of using hookworms to treat multiple sclerosis.

  7. Thanbook on small-format gemaras.

  8. I just received a telephone call from a telemarketer on behalf of The Last Store on Main Street, small liquor stores opposing a new law which will allow wine sales from supermarkets. After giving the pitch, she offered to connect me to the governor's (IIRC) office so I can speak to him (or people there) voicing my opposition (if I opposed it). Here are some links, pro the law and against it (or actually, presents both sides).

  9. At TED, a 6th sense wearable technology. Nice video:

A friend sent the TED last night. Really fascinating, scary, and cool.

Josh,

"HebrewBooks has Mitpachat Sefarim"

That reminded me, do you have any plans on completing your translation of Shadal's vikuach?

yes, thanks for the reminder. Before proceeding, I want to get a slightly better grounding in the kabbalistic and philosophical terms, which get a bit technical in that chapter. but I do have plans to continue it soon -- things keep getting in the way, though.

Josh
