On Talmud Criticism

Re this post on Hirhurim:

I think that the talmid who wrote the article for TorahWeb misunderstood Rav Schachter, R' Gil Student misunderstood the talmid, the commenters misunderstood R' Gil, and I misunderstood the commenters. But don't get me wrong - I'm Orthodox!

;)

Also, lamedzayin has a good comment.

As if my agreement/approval means anything, while I differ somewhat with Rav Schachter in this regard, Rav Schachter's is certainly a legitimate opinion with good basis.

Update: I should add - I was in Rav Schachter's shiur for 5 years and in Dr. Steinfeld's class for about 3.

For those of us too lazy to deal with the comments on Gil's site - what is all the misunderstanding about?

and chaim b. misunderstood my post about the commenters.

I don't want to get into a detailed critique of this issue - I'm swamped right now and simply don't have the time - I just want to leave it at the snarky comment for now (see how it is a play on the citation from Rav Schachter).

Note that you actually will not see the nasty comments I refer to on Hirhurim because of a do-over of the posting (another girsa, if you will). I, unlike Godol Hador, *did* save them for future reference - but I will not be posting them.
