But it is a good question what Netziv was thinking when he offered this answer.

On a peshat level, it is no question why Moshe sat down. It is easier on Moshe to sit down, when engaged in a strenuous activity of having to have his arms up for hours. (It is certainly strenous -- try doing it a mere half-hour.) Furthermore, when he sits down, Aharon and Chur can keep up Moshe's hands without undue effort, since *their* hands would not be so high in the air, and so *they* can keep the position for hours. If Moshe was that much taller than them, such that even when sitting they would have to reach up (and only there was it possible), then nothing is gained, for just as it is physically difficult for Moshe, it would be physically difficult for them. How would their support help?

It is a cute suggestion, but though I haven't seen it inside, my reaction would be not to take it seriously, even on the level of derash.

KT,
Joshjoshwaxmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05149022516101476797noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5589564.post-10924672705725204942009-02-18T18:06:00.000-05:002009-02-18T18:06:00.000-05:00I suggest You see here where the Netziv used this ...I suggest You see here where the Netziv used this idea too.
http://divreichaim.blogspot.com/2009/02/trei-utrei-and-nature-of-chazakah.htmlAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
